2012 SCWW Conference – Ginny Padgett

Well, it’s over for another year…the annual SCWW Conference, I mean. Based on the happy looks on many faces, enthusiastic vibe, overheard compliments on the food, A-1 faculty members and outstanding keynote speaker, NYT Best-selling author Patti Callahan Henry, I think I can safely say 2012 was a successful one.
I relate with pride that our conference has a national reputation among writers and industry professionals and want to share some unsolicited comments I heard during the weekend.

“I’ve been to several writer’s conferences on the East coast, and this is one of the best. In fact, this one and the Faulkner Conference in New Orleans are on a par with each other.”

“With Susan Breen’s pitch class and those presented by national agents and editors on staff, as well as private appointments with faculty members, this was like going to the NY Pitch Conference for a fraction of the cost.”

“I’m so happy I found this conference and joined SCWW.”

“This was one of our best conferences.”

Faculty members:
“Now I understand why Irene Goodman encouraged me to come to this conference.”

“Thank you so much for inviting me. When I get back to NY, I will let other agents know that if they’re asked to come to your conference, they should immediately accept.”

“Please invite me again.”

“I’d come back every year if asked!”

It’s been my honor to serve SCWW as 2012 Conference Chair. I take responsibility for any problems or glitches, and the success must be shared with Co-Chair Kia Goins and her hard-working volunteers. After spending years in this position and that of Volunteer Coordinator, Kia is the 2013 Conference Chair. Under her most capable leadership, I look forward to an even bigger and better conference next year.
Save the date for next year’s conference: October 25-27, 2013, Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort.
