Banned Book Panel (08 Oct 2026)

Silence has never written history. As book bans and material challenges surge across classrooms and public libraries worldwide, the freedom to read faces its most critical test in decades. South Carolina currently has banned or restricted access to 22 books statewide in the schools. These restrictions are not just in our schools. There are county councils that have put onerous requirements their library systems to the point that entire categories of books are no longer being purchased. Join us to learn more about what is going on in South Carolina.

Panelists:

Dan Novack, VP and Associate General Counsel Pengiun Random House

Valerie Byrd Fort, Freedom to Read SC
